Bernard Freeman leads the Hemlock Plaza team as Director of Sports Performance. Bernard attended George Mason University where he is the 4×100 Record Holder, an NCAA All-American and 4x NCAA qualifier. Bernard is also a North Carolina 2x State Champion and 5x High School All-American as well as the NC 4×400 State Record Holder. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and has a USAW Level 1 and USATF Level 1 certification. He has trained hundreds of young athletes and is passionate about helping them improve not just strength and speed, but their confidence and determination as well!
Robert was a weekend starter all three years at the University of Georgia where he was named a Collegiate Baseball All-American as a freshman. After playing two summers with the USA Collegiate National Team, he was selected 38th overall in the 2016 MLB Draft by the Colorado Rookies. As the number 12 prospect in the Rockies organization, he spent time with the Asheville Tourists and High-A Lancaster Jethawks.
Rachel is a Certified Personal Trainer (ACSM) and has a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from UNC-Charlotte. She played Division I college soccer for UNC-Asheville for two years as a forward. Prior to UNC-Asheville, she grew up in Cary, NC and attended Athens Drive High School. During her senior year, she scored 27 goals and collected 14 assists. The Jaguars were the 2016 4A East Regional Runner-Up. She was an All-Conference, All-Region, and All-State selection, played in the Clash of the Carolinas, and was chosen as a Midtown News and Observer Athlete of the Week. She played Club Soccer for ’97 TFC Alliance and was a 2015 State Champion. Rachel is passionate and excited to work with youth athletes to help them reach their goals.
Corey is a native of Asheboro, North Carolina. He attended Eastern Randolph High School where he was a 3-sport athlete (Football, Basketball, & Track). He received consecutive all-conference honors in all three sports along with being named offensive player of the year in the PAC 6 2A Football Conference his senior year. Corey was also Named to 3rd Team All-District Basketball team as a senior, along with consecutive appearances in the 2A regional track championships (100m, 4×1). After graduating from Eastern Randolph, Corey attended East Carolina University where he played two years of Football for the Pirates. He graduated in the Spring of 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Health Fitness Specialist (Kinesiology), and currently holds a Performance Specialist Certification through EXOS Human Performance. Corey is passionate about helping all athletes become better on and off the field or court.
Abby began training with the San Antonio ParaSport Spurs Wheelchair Basketball Team in 2015 and was recruited by the University of Texas at Arlington’s Lady Movin’ Mavs where she helped the team win their first national title in 2016. After only a few months with the Movin’ Mavs, she was selected for the US national team, which won gold at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto, CA. In 2016, she was part of the USA team at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, winning a Paralympic gold medal.
Abby continued to play with the Movin’ Mavs and was one of three UTA students selected for the national team at the 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in Hamburg, Germany, where Team USA came sixth. In 2019, she not only won a gold medal at the Women’s U25 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship in Suphanburi, Thailand but was selected as one of the All-Star Five.
Abby retired from wheelchair basketball after the Tokyo 2020 postponement and now calls NC home where she uses her Kinesiology degree and athletic experience to help others reach their goals – on and off the court!
