Trainers & Staff

  • Calvin Baxter - Baseball Hitting Instructor
  • Lindsey Ottavio - Team Leader

Calvin Baxter is RedLine Springfield's newest baseball hitting coach. Calvin was hand-picked by the great hitting coach, Chuck Hoyle, to continue his proven style of hitting instruction when Chuck retired in June of 2016. Calvin has given private lessons and clinics with Chuck Hoyle for over six years and has worked with players aged 8 to 18. He is excited to carry on Chuck's legacy of producing proven results and improving player performance from Little League through college.

When working under former professional player Will Rhymes during the fall and winter of 2010, Calvin focused on hitting mechanics and developing consistently powerful swings. Will Rhymes has played for the Tigers and the Nationals and currently serves as a scout for the LA Dodgers.

Calvin has also given lessons to Ian Rice, who was selected by the Cubs organization in 2015. Currently Rice leads his single A league in slugging percentage and OPS and is currently second in his league with 9 homeruns in only 124 at-bats.

A native of northern Virginia, Calvin attended Flint Hill School in Oakton and has recently graduated with a B.A. in mathematics from Gettysburg College.

“Cal has helped me with aspects of my swing others could not. If you want to learn the most efficient and powerful way to hit a baseball, I would highly recommend Cal to anyone looking for a hitting instructor.” — Ian Rice

“Cal Baxter was a client of mine for 10 years. He was not only a great hitter at Flint Hill HS, but more importantly an outstanding student of hitting. We have engaged in many hours of conversations regarding the different aspects of the baseball swing. He has assisted me in conducting many hitting clinics and private lessons over the years. There is no one more certified to teach hitting than Cal. I highly recommend him to any parent, coach or player, who wishes to learn a modern day swing that generates power.” — Chuck Hoyle
