Exciting Times at RedLine

RedLine Athletics in Orange CountyThe late spring is always an exciting time at RedLine! This time last year we saw Kevin Chambers be selected by the Detroit Tiger in the 2009 Major League Draft. This year, in the 2010 MLB Draft, Peter Tago of Dana Hills HS, was selected as the 47th Overall Selection in the Supplemental First Round. Later on we had another client, Colton Keough of Tesoro HS, selected in the 49th Round by the Seattle Mariners.

All three of these young men realized the gifts and talents they had been given, but they also understood that they need to maximize those talents. Peter Tago has been training at RedLine since the 8th grade, Kevin Chambers began his training the fall of his sophomore year at Capo Valley HS, and Colton Keough started as a junior at Tesoro HS.

As you see, it’s never to early to start nor is it to late to start training with the incredible staff at RedLine. NOW IS THE TIME!!!! There is no time like the present to get your son or daughter in to help give them that edge that college coaches or profession scouts will notice on the field of play.

Congratulations to Colton Keough!

RedLine Athletics in Orange CountyOn Monday, June 7, 2010, Peter Tago of Dana Hills High School was selected as the 47th Overall Pick in the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies.

Peter has been a part of the RedLine Athletics family for 5 years! When Peter was in 8th grade when Lyndsey began working with him. It has been great to see Peter grow and mature as a baseball player through his high school career. We wish him well and the best of luck!

Here is what BaseballAmerica.com wrote about him…

“Tago epitomizes Southern California cool. Oblivious to outside distractions, he calmly ambles off the team bus decked out in a hooded sweatshirt and wraparound shades with his iPod earphones firmly in place. He also worries little about high school hitters, whom he routinely dominates. His lanky 6-foot-3, 180-pound frame is ideally projectable, and Tago delivers the ball with an easy, relaxed throwing motion that is almost poetic. Tago, who switched his college commitment from UCLA to Cal State Fullerton in May, fires a 91-93 mph fastball, and his arm action and build indicate more velocity in the future. His curve exhibits nice shape and two-plane movement, but Tago will need to tighten the spin on that pitch. He can better incorporate his lower half into his delivery and clean up his arm stroke as well. He’ll also need to develop a third pitch, such as a changeup. An Aflac and Area Codes alumnus, Tago provides a near perfect model of a prep righthander with a huge upside: projectable frame, easy arm action, calm demeanor and electric stuff.”

Sports Specific Training for Race Car DriversWe are really excited to announce the addition of Marko Cavka to our already stellar training staff! Marko has come to us with an incredible resume. He was drafted in the 2004 NFL Draft by the New York Jets and played on the offensive line for two plus years. Later in his career, he played two years in the Canadian Football League and also two years in Europe, where he led his team to two World Bowls!!!

Marko was a scholarship winner at UC-Sacramento State, where he had a 42 consecutive game starting streak while attending the university. However, Cavka is not only limited to football. While growing up, he played club volleyball as well.

Many of you may not realize, but RedLine’s entire training staff has reached the professional ranks!!! So we know what it takes to get to the desired destination of our athletes. Many training places put a premium on the academia of training; whether it is speed, strength, or skills themselves, however, the ownership of RedLine takes it one step further. We want our staff to be able to speak from professional personal experience as well as know the latest techniques being taught by the pros, at major universities, and also by the fitness field gurus!!!

RedLine Takes Athletes to the Next Level

That’s the title of an Orange County Register article featuring RedLine Athletics. Below is the text of the entire article, written by Paul Bersebach of the Register:

RedLine Closed for ThanksgivingSAN JUAN CAPISTRANO – Being able to run an athletic training facility was a dream of Lyndsey Simmons’ since he was a young boy.

With RedLine Athletics in San Juan Capistrano, he is able to live it as the facility’s owner. Simmons, a 27-year-old former Mets and Nationals minor-leaguer, was on the Mets’ spring-training roster as a catcher. Lyndsey Simmons is the owner of RedLine Athletics in San Juan Capistrano.

“Being in baseball and having a wife and two kids was very taxing on my family,” Simmons said. “I would be gone for about 10 out of 12 months. So I decided to retire. I was right on the brink of breaking into the big leagues. I hung it up when my daughter was born.”

Simmons’ passion for baseball has been channeled into his passion for the gym, which opened in 2005 in Laguna Niguel and moved to its current location on Calle Perfecto this year. The business is planning on opening a second facility in January somewhere in south Orange County.

“We’re definitely not comfortable, we’re not complacent,” Simmons said. “Being new, we have a chip on our shoulder. You’re not going to beat our youth or our energy … our kids feel like they belong to a club.”

Cincinnati Bengals starting quarterback Carson Palmer, who starred at Santa Margarita Catholic High School and USC, is a RedLine client, as is his younger brother and Bengals third-string QB Jordan.

RedLine has helped athletes excel in sports like baseball, football, tennis, golf, basketball, softball and volleyball, to name a few.

“I feel way more satisfied owning this gym than I did in all my years playing baseball,” Simmons said. “We’re an all-sport gym. There really hasn’t been a sport we haven’t done.”

It has helped produce results for local area athletes. Consultant Neal Schultz estimates that 80 percent of the members are between the ages of 12 and 22. They include Oregon State linebacker Ben Terry, who played at Saddleback College, and pitcher John Lamb, a fifth-round pick in 2008 of the Kansas City Royals. Read more

Running Mechanics and Speed Training in Orange CountyColby Tan has run a 6.61 second 60-yard dash at RedLine, and his speed didn’t let him down at a recent scout team tryout. Out of the 70 baseball players at the tryout Colby was the 4th fastest player to run. Less then 6 months ago, he had a knee injury that took him out of the rest of his high school season, but he wouldn’t let that slow him down. Colby has worked extremely hard with the knowledgeable trainers at RedLine and because of his dedication to his training he reconditioned the bum knee and earned a spot on the Oakland A’s scout team.
