Warm-Up Exercise for Sports Specific TrainingSpiderman Stretch: Now that the bodies core temperature has increased, the muscles are now ready to be elongated in order to prepare them for the upcoming workout. To begin the Spiderman Stretch, you will need to get into a push-up position. With your arms straight down toward the ground, bring one leg forward and place it just outside the hand on the same side of the body. Sink the hips toward the floor and allow the muscles to stretch for 2-10 seconds. Then replace the foot in the original position of a push-up. Switch legs and continue the stretching process. Repeat each leg 5-10 times.

One variation to this excellent warm-up exercise, is to lift the same arm up toward the ceiling. Once the foot is in place lift that arm up and allow the lower lumbar to be stretched as well. This can be held for 2-10 seconds as well.

Sports Specific Training for Race Car DriversWe are really excited to announce the addition of Marko Cavka to our already stellar training staff! Marko has come to us with an incredible resume. He was drafted in the 2004 NFL Draft by the New York Jets and played on the offensive line for two plus years. Later in his career, he played two years in the Canadian Football League and also two years in Europe, where he led his team to two World Bowls!!!

Marko was a scholarship winner at UC-Sacramento State, where he had a 42 consecutive game starting streak while attending the university. However, Cavka is not only limited to football. While growing up, he played club volleyball as well.

Many of you may not realize, but RedLine’s entire training staff has reached the professional ranks!!! So we know what it takes to get to the desired destination of our athletes. Many training places put a premium on the academia of training; whether it is speed, strength, or skills themselves, however, the ownership of RedLine takes it one step further. We want our staff to be able to speak from professional personal experience as well as know the latest techniques being taught by the pros, at major universities, and also by the fitness field gurus!!!

Warm-Up Exercise for Sports Specific TrainingKnee Pull Lunge & Twist: In order to keep the warm-up functional and an unfolding process of the body, the next warm-up warm exercise is a variation of the knee pull. A lunge and twist can be added to the initial knee pull. The twist, however, is performed by twisting your upper body over/across the leg that is in the forward position of the lunge. This exercise is a great way to help loosen the glutes and hamstrings as well as the abdominal muscles, I-T bands, spinal erectors, and the lumbar region . Plus, while performing this stretch, balance will also be worked on and enhanced. To execute this exercise, pull one knee as high as possible toward the chest while still maintaining balance (with a straight leg) on the leg that is grounded. After holding the knee at it’s highest position for 3 seconds, release it and step forward into a lunge position and twist across the front knee. Hold the twist for a moment then stand up and repeat the process. This exercise can be repeated 5-15 times per leg.

Connor De Phillippi Wins Again in Alabama

Connor De Phillippi, Professional Driver & RedLine AthleteLeeds, Ala. (July 19) Barber Motorsports Park provided the location for some of the season’s best racing as Connor De Phillippi, a RedLine Elite client, extended his points lead and MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development driver Court Vernon capitalized on his twin poles to earn his first Skip Barber National victory.

Saturday’s Race 1 quickly turned into a four-car break away, with the top four qualifiers; Court Vernon, De Phillippi, Felipe Polehtto and Kyle Marcelli pulling away from the pack to fight for the lead amongst themselves. Lap after lap, the quartet passed and re-passed each other; using the draft and their momentum to briefly gain advantage before surrendering falling back into the group.

The trainers at RedLine are top of the line trainers as well as top of the line people. They are always there when you need them and are willing to do whatever it takes to help their athletes move on with their careers.

Making the decision to start training at RedLine Athletics was definitely one of the smartest decisions that I have ever made. What they did for me is something that I will never forget, and I am extremely grateful for everything that they did for me. Blaine Jones Signs with Seattle University!

Blaine Jones, Seattle University Baseball Player and RedLine AthleteBlaine Jones had been told all his life that he was too small to pitch at a Division 1 school, but that didn’t stop him from working toward his dream. This week his dream came true when he signed with Seattle University in their first recruiting class in school history. He is excited with his choice, and chose Seattle over Loyola Marymount, University of California-Irvine, and Colorado State-Pueblo.

Seattle University head coach Donny Harrel came down from the Great Northwest, contacted us to inquire if we had any D1-quality arms at RedLine, and from that Blaine has become the 25th scholarship that RedLine has orchestrated. We are ecstatic for Blaine and wish him the best!

We offer this promise to all of our RedLine Family: if you have a dream to play at a higher level, we can deliver!

Erik’s Active Warm-Up Exercise 3

Active Warm-Up Exercises for Sports Specific TrainingThe final stretch, in the series of stretches that I’ve been covering, is the Foot Cradle. This exercise completes the stretching of the hip region. The first two focused on the quads, hip flexors, hamstrings and glutes, while the foot cradle, performed correctly, will complete the loosening process of the hip region. This exercise focuses on the glutes and the muscles that surround, stabilize, and protect the ball-and-socket joint, also known as the hip.

To execute this exercise, pull your foot up toward your stomach by grabbing the side of the foot and allowing the knee to abduct from the center of your body. This needs to be done while still maintaining balance (with a straight leg) on the leg that is grounded. After holding the foot at a comfortable position for 3-10 seconds, release it and step forward. Pull the other foot up and repeat the process. This exercise can be repeated 5-15 times per leg.
